International Indigenous Business and Entrepreneurship Conference Fostering Indigenous Entrepreneurship

University of New Mexico.
Target Audiences: Academicians, business professionals, government, multilateral institutions,
and NGOs, students, and anyone interested in learning and sharing experiences pertaining to
Indigenous Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
General Information for Presenters
In order to be considered, proposals must be received by
Wednesday, March 15, 2006.
Sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 20, Wednesday, June 21, and Thursday, June 22.
Sessions at the conference are 2.5 hours in length.
Sessions will consist of individuals in academia, practitioners, and experts in their respective fields.
We welcome proposals from those who are currently engaged in fields related to Indigenous business and entrepreneurship.
Proposals should address the conference main theme and related topics such as:
Financing Indigenous Entrepreneurship: developing financial products for
indigenous business, investing in indigenous human capital, legal indigenous business issues, financing
indigenous business ventures strategies, sovereign immunity in indigenous commercial transactions.
Marketing Indigenous Products, Services, and Technologies: indigenous ecotourism strategies,
indigenous trademarks and patents, channels of distribution for indigenous products, services, and
technologies, exporting strategies, e-commerce and indigenous entrepreneurship.
Indigenous Gaming, Media, Entertainment, Fashion, and Design: developing indigenous gaming
business, media, the indigenous entertainment industry, indigenous fashion and design industry.
Challenges and Opportunities Facing Indigenous Sustainable Entrepreneurship: indigenous women and entrepreneurship, culture, traditional
values, ethics and entrepreneurship; biopiracy, mining, forestry, fishing and gaming, and environmentally friendly
technologies.
The Role of Regional, Federal, NGOs, and Multilateral Agencies in Promoting Indigenous
Entrepreneurship: the role of state agencies, the role of federal agencies, the role of the World Bank,
IFC, ILO, and the United Nations, the role of NGOs.
Fostering Indigenous Entrepreneurship – A Case Study Perspective: case studies on indigenous
entrepreneurship from North America, Latin America, Asia, Oceania, Africa, Europe.
Conference Logistics for Presenters
Conference presenters are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and related conference expenses
including reproduction of handouts.
Presenters receive one complimentary conference registration including all conference
materials and meals.
Audio-Visual Assistance
Standard media support for presenters will be provided. This includes:
Overhead projectors
Screens
Microphones
Flipchart packages
Slide projectors
TV/VCR
However, LCD/Multimedia projectors will not be provided. Presenters may bring their own equipment,
and are responsible for the setup and proper function of their projector.
Requirements for Proposals and Proposal Form
Submit the attached proposal form no later than Wednesday, March 15, 2006.
